2017 Season
Unfortunately, our final match of the year was cancelled due to strong winds off Weymouth, part of the tapestry of sea boat fishing in the UK. So the standings from the November trip remain unchanged.
This means that Vernon Allen is our Species League Champion scoring an impressive 634.72% with his best 7 scores from the 10 events over the year. Richard Ferre was within a whisker and lost by only 0.06% which is just crazy and Steve Batchelor third with 617.67%
Yours truly Ray Evans wins the Species League tankard for the most species with 29 across the year and overall we caught 41 species between us which is a new Species League annual record.
We also had 3 new species this year, Stephan Baker caught a red bream in one of the entrances to Portland Harbour, Luke Allen a cuckoo ray from Minehead and Kim Bowden the first of 5 guilt head bream from Poole Harbour.
We also have new trophy winners for various ports/areas where we regularly fish. To be in with a chance of any of these you need to have fished at least 6 matches throughout the year. Each prize is awarded to the best scores/percentages of the combined matches in each area.
So here are all the trophy winners for 2017 :-
Vernon Allen – Species League Championship Trophy
Ray Evans – Most Species Tankard
Vernon Allen – Weymouth Fish
Darren Phillips – Poole Challenge
Bill Cann – Bristol Channel Open
Steve Batchelor – Lyme Bay Cup
Ricard Ferre – Hampshire Rose
Prize giving will now take place on 23 February after the first match in Weymouth in 2018
